THE
ADVENTURE IN BRIEF
This sailing safari is an ideal way to explore the
remote islands of the Maldives. With our specially
equipped sailing boat – the traditional styled
Dhoni - we have the opportunity to explore both
inhabited and uninhabited islands a world away from
the tourist resorts. A sense of fun and a flexible
approach will ensure that you have a great time
- our feedback has been consistently positive since
1980 when we operated our first Maldives sailing
safaris.

CLIMATE
The Maldives is subject to a double monsoon. The
South West monsoon affects the islands from May
until August, and a North East monsoon prevails
from October though to January. The North East monsoon
does not attract the same degree of cloud cover
or rainfall as the South West monsoon, and the occasional
afternoon shower will not detract from your enjoyment
of the islands. Throughout the year daytime temperatures
can rise to the mid-20s. Night temperatures are
still pleasantly warm - although the sea breezes
will ensure you appreciate your sleeping bag/sheet.
DAILY ROUTINE
Our sailing routine will vary from day to day. We
sleep on the deck of the boat or underneath in our
bunks. Our cooks will provide a hearty breakfast
before we start the day’s activities. Sailing
is of a most-relaxed style in the Maldives with
time to fish and snorkel and share time with the
local crew. We normally sail/motor for 5 to 6 hours
per day depending on group preferences. If you want
the opportunity to help sail the dhoni then the
local crew will be pleased to help. Meal times are
equally relaxed. We normally enjoy a light lunch,
while our evening meal will vary depending on the
catch of the day. Please note that the Maldives
is a Muslim country and that no alcohol is allowed
in the country other than on the beach resorts.
On visiting these resorts there is the opportunity
to purchase a cold beer in the bar.
CONSERVATION
The environment of the Maldives is extremely fragile
and it is our responsibility as visitors to minimize
the impact of our presence. It has always been our
motto that "we take only photographs and leave
only footprints". We ask that all travelers
thoughtfully dispose of rubbish by placing it in
the proper receptacle.
Important Note: These trip notes represent the most current
information available for this itinerary, and supersede
any information detailed in the current brochure,
including but not limited to the itinerary and price.
In remote and developing countries do not expect
standards you are used to at home. Remote areas
are sometimes unpredictable and itineraries may
be altered. To get the most out of your adventure
it is important that you are flexible, positive
and eager to take on all the challenges that arise.
