ITINERARY IN DETAIL
Day 1 : Arrive Delhi
A warm welcome awaits you at the Delhi International
Airport by a Worldwide Adventures representative,
who will transfer you to your hotel.
Day 2 : Delhi
In the morning, you will have a city tour of Old
Delhi, exploring the Red Fort with its pearl mosque
and exquisite audience halls. You will then visit
Jama Masjid mosque with its marble domes and splendor
minarets, Raj Ghat (where Gandhi was cremated),
the Ashoka Pillar and the mile long Chandni Chowk
Bazaar where craftsmen sell their wares. In the
afternoon you will visit New Delhi, a city designed
and built by the British in the 1920s. It is a city
of wide boulevards, impressive Government buildings,
green parks and gardens, many of which were designed
by Sir Edwin Lutyens. Other historically significant
sights include India Gate, the Qutab Minar and Emperor
Humayun's Tomb. In the evening there will be a welcome
dinner with entertainment.
Day 3 : Delhi - Shekhawati
You will have a morning drive to Shekhawati, a semi
desert that lies in the triangular terrain between
Delhi, Jaipur and Bikaner,. visit the beautiful
Havelis (mansions) constructed by the merchants
of the region. Many of these buildings date back
to the early 18th century, and due to the abundance
of these houses, the entire area has been named
the 'open air gallery of Rajasthan'. Other highlights
include forts, castles, 'baolis', 'chhatris' and
mosques. The major towns of Fatehpur, Nawalgarh,
Mandawa and Ramgarh, gained prominence during the
height of the caravan trade.
Day 4 : Shekhawati
- Jaipur
You will have a morning drive to Jaipur, the Pink
City.
Day 5 : Jaipur
The highlight toDay is an early morning ride by
elephant high up to Amber Fort. This spectacular
fortress/palace protects a complex of palaces, temples,
and exquisite marble and mirror halls and apartments.
Other places of interest in the Pink City are the
Hava Mahal (Palace of the Winds), a high and intricately
carved wall, behind which women of the court were
sequestered while watching processions. You will
also visit the City Palace, which contains an excellent
collection of Rajasthani costumes, miniatures and
an armory of Rajput weapons.
Day 6 : Jaipur - Ranthambore
In the morning, you will drive to Ranthambore, and
check in to your hotel, a former hunting lodge in
lovely grounds, a short drive from the National
Park.
Day 7 : Ranthambore
Timings Morning (0630 hrs - 0930 hrs & Evening 1430
hrs - 1730 hrs) RANTHAMBORE NATIONAL PARK: Nestled
in the Aravali hills, in the midst of the arid plains
and denuded tracts of Rajasthan in north India,
lies Ranthambore, a haven for the adventure seeker
and the wildlife watcher. This is an area dominated
by desert ecology and speckled with dhok, ronj,
salai, ber and palm trees, and boasts some of the
best wildlife sightings Asia has to offer. Belts
of dry deciduous forest with ancient banyan and
peepul trees suddenly give way to lush green oases.
Three major lakes - Rajbaugh, Milak Talao and Padam
Talao - serve as watering holes for the tiger, and
deer that inhabit this national Park. The scenery
is studded with Rajput pavilions and palaces and
the imposing Ranthambore fort. Among the animals,
birds and reptiles that can be spotted in Ranthambore
are the tiger - the star attraction for sure - the
leopard, sambar, blue bull, chital, chinkara, hyena,
jackal, fox, caracal, jungle cat, ratel, sloth bear,
langur and wild boar.
There are more than 300 species of birds - peafowl,
parakeets, partridges, storks, egrets, flycatchers,
eagles and owls. In the in the winter months black
eagle, greylag goose, ruddy shelduck, as well as
pintails can be seen. In the early morning you will
have a jungle safari by jeep, and then return to
your hotel for breakfast. You will have another
jungle safari by jeep in the afternoon.
Day 8 : Ranthambore
- Bharatpur
After breakfast drive through the country side to
the tiny bird sanctuary at Bharatpur. Thereafter
drive to Peharsar. Our hotel here - Chandra Mahal
Haveli is an old mansion of a noble located in an
ethnic Rajasthani village. Evening walking tour
of the Village. We will visit a local school and
a home.
Day 9 : Bharatpur
- Fatehpur Sikri - Agra
Late morning continue to the beautiful walled city
of Fatehpur Sikri, built to commemorate the birth
of Akbar's son. The complex was completed in 1574
but abandoned only fourteen years later. Of particular
interest are the redstone mosques, courtyards and
the palace where Akbar reputedly once played chess
using slave girls as pawns. Afterwards you will
continue on to Agra.
Day 10 : Agra
Agra with its laid-back life style and its immense
wealth of architecture, handicrafts and jewellery
is amongst the most remarkable cities of the world.
The sightseeing tour from the Taj Mahal - the most
perfect architectural monument in the world, erected
by Shah Jahan in memory of his favourite wife, Queen
Mumtaz Mahal. Begun in 1632, completion of the white
marble edifice required the work of 20,000 people
over 21 years. The fort at Agra, with impressive
elephant gates and Mugal Empire style is also a
highlight.
Day 11 : Agra - Jhansi - Khajuraho
This morning, you will travel by train to Jhansi,
and then by road to your hotel in Khajuraho.
Day 12 : Khajuraho
- Varanasi
The sculptures of the temples of Khajuraho are ensconced
in wall niches. Provocative maidens, dancers, musicians
and embracing couples adorn these buildings of worship,
which are masterpieces of Indian art. In the afternoon,
you will fly to Varanasi, one of the oldest cities
in the world. Formerly known as Benares, faith.
Day
Day 13 : Varanasi - Delhi - Home
Early this morning, you will board a launch for
a cruise on the Ganges to the Bathing Ghats. As
the sun's first rays light up the 2 kilometre stretch
of "ghats" or steps that lead into the river. Then
you can walk along the narrow lanes and visit bazaars
selling the famous Benares Silks. You can In the
afternoon you will fly to Delhi, where a hotel Day-room
will be available for you. You will transfer back
to the airport in time for your late evening flight
home.
